The 9/11 Flight Crew Memorial is open to visitors

Shortly following the events of 9/11 an American Flight Attendant, Valerie Thompson, formed a foundation dedicated to the memory of the professionals who crewed American Airlines Flights 11 and 77 and United Airlines Flights 93 and 175. She and her husband, Dean, continued their vision for six years joined by numerous members of the aviation community and others. On July 4th 2008 the 9/11 Flight Crew Memorial was dedicated in Grapevine, Texas, just north of Dallas Fort Worth International Airport with almost a thousand in attendance. The City facilitated the gift of the site from the Westwood Development Group and has provided landscaping, parking and benches. The site is located on the SW corner of Northwest Highway and Texan Trail in the new GrapeVine Station Development and provides outstanding access to the public. The 9/11 Flight Crew Memorial Foundation has donated the Memorial as a gift to the City who has incorporated the Memorial into their Parks system. The 9/11 Flight Crew Memorial has been fortunate to receive the enthusiasm and support of this close-knit aviation community. We encourage you to visit the 9/11 Flight Crew Memorial as we remember the events of 9/11. Directions to the Memorial

For those of you not familiar with the Memorial , it is a bronze sculpture based on the design of Bryce Cameron Liston of Salt Lake City ,Utah and sculpted by Dean Thompson. It is executed in the Grande style which is one and one half life size. The Memorial has five figures; two pilots, two flight attendants, and a child representing the traveling public. The figures are 14 feet high and with the base stand 18 feet. It is sited facing west on a compass rose. Engraved pavers encircle the site. The figures stand on a single block of white Texas limestone. The names of the crew members of the 9/11 flights are engraved on slabs of granite surrounding the base. It is truly beautiful and awe inspiring. Be sure to place the Memorial on your must see list when visiting the Dallas/Fort Worth Metro Area.

Memorial Engraved Pavers

Although the main construction has been completed on the Memorial, due to financial considerations several features were left undone. The main one is a water feature. We have a program that will enable donors to place an engraved paving brick at the Memorial.
For a donation of $100 or more an engraved paver, 8x4 inches with three lines
of 14 spaces, will be placed at the Memorial. This is a great opportunity to display
your support of the Memorial or to honor someone special to you. For further details and to view an example of an engraved paver, click this link, Engraved Paver . If you have already decided to donate, click this link to download an order form, Brick Order Form.

The 9/11 Flight Crew Memorial Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non profit
foundation. It is operated solely by unpaid volunteers whose objective
it is to honor the heroic flight crews of September 11, 2001.
